Baseball glove size chart by age and position

Sizes are the glove length in inches, except catcher's mitts, which are measured around the glove. The source's age groups skip age 7 and age 14; Rawlings (below) treats 7 to 12 as youth. If a player sits between groups, try the larger group's range in the position you need.

Rawlings glove sizes by level

Rawlings' chart splits by level instead of position, and gives a position only for youth infield, first base and outfield. Rawlings' published adult infield range has a misprint (the low number is higher than the high one), so we do not show it. Pitcher and catcher sizes are not listed.

JustBallGloves also notes that youth gloves suit players about 12 and under and adult gloves suit players 14 and up, with the outfield glove pattern larger than the infield pattern. It gives no numeric sizes for adult or youth infield and outfield.

How to choose

Questions

What size baseball glove should I get?

It depends mostly on position, then age. Outfield gloves are larger than infield gloves. For a player 14 or older, the BaseballMonkey chart gives about 11.25 to 11.5 inches at second base or shortstop, 11.5 to 12 at third base or pitcher, 12 to 13 at first base or outfield. Younger players need smaller sizes; the chart above lists every age band.

What size glove for a 10 year old?

For ages 8 to 10, BaseballMonkey lists 10.5 to 11.25 inches at second base or shortstop, 10.5 to 11.5 at third base or pitcher, 10 to 12 in the outfield and 11.5 to 12 at first base. Rawlings lists 10.25 to 11.5 inches for a youth infielder aged 7 to 12.

How are catcher's mitts sized?

Catcher's mitts are measured by circumference around the glove rather than top to bottom, so the numbers are much larger. JustBallGloves lists about 31 to 33.5 inches for youth and 32 to 35 inches for adults; BaseballMonkey's numbers are close.

What is the difference between youth and adult gloves?

JustBallGloves recommends youth gloves for players about 12 and under and adult gloves for players 14 and up. It does not address 13 year olds, and describes intermediate gloves such as the Wilson Pedroia Fit and Rawlings Contour Fit by fit rather than size. Try both if your player is 13.
